Guide: Getting your PlayStation 2 Online

Posted on Apr 28th 2018 13:26:33 in PlayStation 2, Guides

This post will guide you through the steps you need to take in order to go online with your PlayStation 2. Note, a separate guide will be posted later on how to get online with the PCSX2 emulator.

Required Materials:

  1. A working PlayStation 2 (obviously)
  2. A copy of Star Wars: Battlefront II
  3. A network adapter (if you are using a fat model PS2)
  4. A wired ethernet connection, either direct or with a power-line adapter

Alternative Method for Advanced Users:

  1. Download the Network Patch and Shell.lvl .zip file.
  2. Unpack your Star Wars: Battlefront II .iso file.
  3. Replace the SWBFRNT2.ELF file in the root of the .iso folder with the one in the download.
  4. Replace the shell.lvl file in \DATA\_LVL_PS2 in the .iso folder with the one in the download.
  5. Use an image builder like ImgBurn to repackage the .iso folder into a functional .iso.
  6. Create a network configuration with default settings for everything.
  7. Play with PCSX2 or with OpenPS2Loader on your PlayStation 2.

Method for Standard Users or Disc Users:

Step 1:

If needbe make sure that your network adapter is attached to your PlayStation 2 and your ethernet cable is connected. Launch Star Wars: Battlefront II and navigate to the online menu, select Internet. On the following screen press Square.

Step 2:

On the menu that loads select "Add Setting".

Step 3:

Select your network adapter.

Step 4:

In the IP Address Setup screen select "Manual".

Step 5:

Assuming you haven't altered your router's default IP settings enter the following:

  • IP Address: 192.168.1.X (select a number you know won't be used by another device, usually above 200 should be fine)
  • Netmask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default Router: 192.168.1.1

Step 6:

On the DNS Entry screen enter the following:

  • Primary DNS: 45.7.228.197
  • Secondary DNS: 8.8.8.8

Step 7:

Complete the network test, save the configuration, and exit the network setup tool. You are ready to play!
